HDD Cable Laying Services

Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) — the intelligent, non-disruptive method for underground cable installation under roads, railways, rivers, and congested urban corridors across Northern India.

Technology Overview

What Is Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD)?

Horizontal Directional Drilling is a trenchless technology used to install underground pipelines, conduits, and cable ducts with minimal surface disruption. A steerable drill head bores a precise, curved pilot hole from one surface point to another, following a pre-planned bore profile beneath obstacles.

Once the pilot hole is complete, it is progressively enlarged using reamers until the diameter is sufficient to pull through the product pipe or cable duct bundle. The technique is ideal for:

  • Road and highway crossings without cutting carriageway
  • Railway crossings meeting RDSO clearance requirements
  • River and canal crossings with minimal ecological impact
  • Urban congestion zones where open trenching is restricted
  • Airport and sensitive facility environs

HDD vs Open Trench Cable Laying

Both methods are part of our service portfolio. Here is when each is the right choice.

HDD — When to Choose

  • Crossing busy highways, national highways, or state roads
  • Crossings under railway tracks
  • Crossings under rivers, canals, or water bodies
  • Urban areas with heavy traffic or restricted trenching
  • Environmentally sensitive areas
  • Long crossings requiring minimum surface restoration

Open Trench — When to Choose

  • Rural or greenfield cable routes with open land
  • Long cable runs where HDD cost is prohibitive
  • Areas with soil conditions suitable for safe trenching
  • Industrial compounds and private land
  • Cable routes with minimal traffic and access

Dwizzy Projects is proficient in both methods. Our engineers will recommend the most cost-effective and technically appropriate solution for each section of your cable route after a detailed site survey.

Cable Specifications

Cable Types We Install

High Voltage (HV) Cables

11 kV and 33 kV XLPE-insulated cables for power utilities and electricity boards requiring underground distribution in urban areas or road crossings.

Medium Voltage (MV) Cables

3.3 kV to 6.6 kV cables for industrial plant distribution, grid substation feeders, and campus power networks.

LV Power & Control Cables

Low voltage power cables and multicore control cables for industrial plant wiring, street lighting circuits, and utility distribution networks.

Telecom & OFC Ducts

HDPE duct installation via HDD or open trench for optical fibre cables, telecom conduits, and broadband infrastructure.

Our HDD Process

Step-by-Step HDD Cable Laying Process

01

Route Survey & Design

Detailed bore profile design using underground utility surveys and soil investigation to plan the optimal drill path.

02

Permissions & NOCs

Securing necessary permissions from NHAI, Railways, State PWD, and utility authorities before commencing works.

03

Pilot Bore

Steerable drill head follows the planned bore path beneath the obstacle, guided by tracking equipment above ground.

04

Reaming & Enlargement

Progressive reaming enlarges the bore to the required diameter for the cable duct size and number of ducts.

05

Duct Pullback

Pre-assembled duct bundle is pulled back through the bore. Cable is then laid through the installed ducts.

Plan Your HDD Cable Laying Project

Our HDD-specialist engineers will assess your crossing requirements, prepare a bore profile, and provide a detailed proposal — fully compliant with all applicable regulations.
